Be a proud workaholic

Be a proud workaholic.

Being passionate about and committed to your work does not mean you are neglecting family, friends and health. There is nothing wrong with finding meaning in your work. It is something you spend a third of your life doing. Why should it not be something you love and enjoy?

I don't believe in work-life balance. Often people who use this term dislike their work and see work as a price they have to pay in order to afford to enjoy their personal lives. I believe in work-life integration. You should enjoy work as much as you enjoy life, and vice versa.

Never let people know how hard you work

Rule #13 - Never let people know how hard you work

Be cool. Be relaxed. Be good at what you do. You'll have to work hard to be good, but never reveal how hard you work. Don't complain about how tough your job is. Just get it done and show people the results. And smile.

Boss vs worker

Boss vs worker

How a typical boss thinks - I pay my worker to do work and to make money for my company. He'd better earn more money than what I pay him, else I will fire him. How a typical worker thinks - My boss pays me to do work. I will do exactly that and no more. I don't own the company so don't expect me to sacrifice for the company.
When bosses and workers set themselves on opposing grounds, and stop at such a transactional mindset, it is no wonder that companies do not grow, and people do not realise their full potential. A boss-and-worker relationship must always be a win-win relationship, bringing value to each other, and achieving much more than what each can do individually.

The one rule that simplifies all problems

The one rule that simplifies all problems:
When we face a problem, there are only two options to consider. (1) Do something about it. (2) Accept it. Don't complain. That doesn't help. If you are not going to do something about it, shut up and accept it. If you can't accept it, then get up and take action.

To change a person

To change a person is something very difficult to do.
Yet it is also one of the most valuable things that we do. People are naturally resistant to change. It feels futile trying to help people who are not willing to help themselves. It is easy to give up. Stick with it. We change the world for the better one person at a time, and sometimes the first person is ourselves.

Which is the most critical 5-year period in life?

"Which is the most critical 5-year period in life?"

Answer: It is the 5 years starting from today. There is no such thing as having missed your critical 5 years, or your best 5 years are yet to come. Decide what you want to do today, and start doing it.

I'm here to solve a problem

"I'm here to solve a problem" - that's a mantra which helps you focus and get rid of all sorts of rubbish in your work and in your life. Often we engage in politicking, gossiping, trying to win at all costs, or we keep doing the same things over and over, that we forget to reflect on whether we are actually solving a problem. Sometimes we create more problems instead, for ourselves and for others. When we focus on creating value, we will discard many unproductive activities and thoughts. What problem are you helping to solve today?

Do you feel uncomfortable doing business networking?
